History

The Subcontractors Trade Association (STA) was established in July, 1966 by a group of subcontractors and suppliers who recognized the need for greater representation. Today, over 350 contractors representing every field within the construction industry comprise the STA.

The STA focuses its activities on problems affecting subcontractors in public and private construction, including progress payments, bid-shopping, improper back charges, legislation, prevailing wage enforcement, lien laws, insurance and bonding and the like. Current problems and issues of special concern to our members are addressed through one-on-one meetings arranged directly with agencies or parties involved and at our regularly scheduled General Membership Dinner Meetings.

With the goal of improving their economic wellbeing, the STA provides its members with the information, representation and support they require for success. As the industry became more dependent upon subcontractors to perform an ever-increasing portion of contract work, the need for legislation to protect their interests grew tremendously. In 1975, the STA embarked on a program for legislative change, resulting in 34 pieces of legislation to the benefit of its members.
